My Favourite Oil based Body Scrubs
Self care is a really important thing to schedule in at the moment and oil based body scrubs are going to change the game for you! I personally find the best place to use them for relaxation is in a nice hot bath but they work just as well in the shower (minus the rubber duck and the face mask!).
What are the benefits of using body scrubs?
- exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells
- encourages efficient circulation
- draws out impurities and leaves skin clearer and less congested
- soothes and helps free razor bumps and ingrown hairs
The difference between body scrubs and oil based body scrubs is how they treat and leave your skin feeling. Once you have used a body scrub and exfoliated your skin, this is the prime time to moisturise, as once you have got rid of your dead skin cells your healthy skin cells are ready to absorb the moisture - moisture has a much harder job of penetrating through dead skin to healthy skin!
With oil based scrubs the oil is already there, ready to penetrate your healthy skin cells whilst sloughing off the dead ones. Not only does this rehydrate your skin much more efficiently and quicker, it also minimises a step from your routine. We have all been there, waiting until you are fully dry before you apply your moisturiser. And then how long do you wait for your moisturiser to dry until you can get dressed? And be honest, how many times do you forego the moisturiser all together!
There are many different body scrubs with and without oil, and the preference is entirely down to you. But please take my word on this one, once you start using an oil based body scrub you won't ever turn back! I have listed my three favourites along with their price tags and where you can pick them up!
Valentte London Body Scrub
Valentte London is a wonderful company that use only natural botanical oils and plant based products. They do a handful of skincare products but those that they do, they do very well! This beautiful body scrub is completely natural using Dead Sea Salt. It is kind to even the most sensitive of skins and is packed with natural oils for beautiful nourishment. It comes in seven different scents which are all absolutely incredible and unlike some natural scents that are very feint they really come through. My personal favourite is Lemongrass and Rosemary but they are all wonderful. You can get FREE sample scents straight to your doorstep to try so you can pick the perfect scent for you!
- Geranium & Ylang Ylang
- Lemongrass & Rosemary
- Lime & Grapefruit
- Mandarin & Grapefruit
- Patchouli & Eucalyptus
- White Neroli & Lemon
Ritual's Body Scrub
Another beautful scrub, when you remove the lid you will notice the scrub encased in oil - the perfect addition to any relaxation evening! There are six different scrubs from rituals, all have a different ingredients list and therefor all have a different target on the skin. My personal favourite all rounder is the Rejuvenating Himalayan Salt Scrub - Sweet Almond Oil and Indian Rose, which contains ancient crystal salt from the Himalayas and sweet almond oil with an Indian Rose aroma... pure bliss. Have a browse on their site for all of the different scrubs, I highly recommend them all!
- Organic Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom
- Sweet Orange & Cedar Wood
- Holy Lotus & Organic White Tea
- Warming Ginger & Eucalyptus
- Sweet Almond Oil & Indian Rose
- Sacred Lotus & Jojoba
Dead Sea Collection Mineral Salt Scrub
This is obviously the cheapest of all my favourites but that does by no means make it the least. I don't share my favourites with you of anything based on price, it is solely by quality. Sometimes you find the large price tag does not necessarily reflect the product inside. This oil based body scrub is fantastic, it comes in eight different scents so there is a real variety for you to choose from. My personal favourite is Lavender, I find lavender really calming for anxiety, especially at the moment. The scrub contains dead sea salt and minerals with natural essential oil extracts for scent and moisture, however essential oils have many more benefits on the body. This scrub isn't too harsh like some scrubs can be and it leaves a layer of non greasy oil over the skin, it is absolutely divine!
- Hemp & Coconut Lime
- Hemp & Almond Vanilla
- Almond Vanilla
- Tea Tree
I would recommend using body scrubs 2-3 times a week or 1-2 times a week for sensitive skin, they are not an addition you need to be using every day. Make sure you pay close attention to elbows, knees, the bottoms of the feet and anywhere that gets particularly dry.
Please note - do not use an oil based scrub before you fake tan! The oil will act as a barrier - stick to exfoliating mitts, these work best before fake tanning.
* Please make sure you always read the list of ingredients on the back of any product before using them to ensure you aren't allergic to any of the ingredients and do a patch test before using - a small amount on the inside crease of the elbow 48 hours before hand (it can take 48 hours for a reaction to show up). If you have any adverse reactions to any products make sure you stop using them immediately *
